Do societal standards of morality apply to God?

You would think that a God would be perfect and therefore of course would follow his own morals, but on the other side of the coin you have the "do as I say not as I do" argument. Me, I just don't think about it because I'll only know the true answer by doing one thing and I'm not in any hurry to do that.
